Winter (Book 4 of the Lunar Chronicles) by Marissa Meyer

If you missed the posts on CinderScarlet, and Cress click on the titles. They should definitely be read first. There was also Fairest, which is considered book 3.5, and  Stars Above, which is collection of short stories for this series.

If you’ve gotten this far in the series you are probably committed to finish and have already met Winter in both Cress and Fairest. Of all the Snow White stories I’ve read over the years, this has best scene with the “huntsman”. This one was much longer than the others and every bit as wonderful for me. I know not everyone is into fairy tales or sci-fi but I love both! As with the others, all the elements of the original story is there, but with some tweaks.

I’ve never been a big Snow White fan, but recent renditions have been revolutionizing the character. What made this version so special was that it strengthened her character without changing her. Meyer didn’t try to make her a badass. She added a dimension to her character and it made her both more interesting and brave in an unexpected way.

This book also continues the stories of the other fairy tale characters that we’ve met so far. Cinder, Kai, Scarlet, Wolf, Captain Thorne, Cress and Jason Clay still have business to finish with Queen Levana and lives to get back to some day. There were many things I appreciated about the way this series ended, but I don’t want to spoil anything.  Let’s just say that elements from all over the series get pulled in to put a nice bow on the end of the series. It isn’t contrived nor does it placate as it does it. Most of those elements just made me nod, realizing that it makes perfect sense for the characters involved.
